AbKb Abstract Kab hosts Superposition removals & functions (on the road)
Thursday 26th May 2022
Abstract Kab Mobile Gallery Unit, Whitworth Art Gallery, Oxford Rd, Manchester M15 6ER
Abstract Kab is a new mobile gallery and performance space. Originally crafted by artists Yelena Popova and Gavin Wade Abstract Kab is inspired by Russian constructivist El Lissitzky’s Abstract Cabinet 1926-28. Here in its second phase the gallery is taken over by a fictional art installation and general odd job company. Superposition, under the helm of artists Luke Routledge & Robin Broadley, Ab Kab will park up, in and out of A Modest Show, delivering and removing artwork throughout the programme.
Notes
The interior is made by Gavin Wade after both Lissitzky’s slatted walls and his experiments with Frederick Kiesler’s L and T–Type Display Units 1924 over the last 20 years. The title superposition removals & functions references a fundamental principle in quantum mechanics, where any two (or more) quantum states can be added together (‘superposed.’)
