Josephine Flynn re-evaluates and develops one of her renowned multi-disciplinary satirical works for A Modest Show, to examine how the viewer can ‘activate’ the work. Josephine creates work with multiple, contrasting narratives, using what she describes as “low aesthetics”, involving basic forms that are made from every day, disposable materials. She creates work in this way to explore the themes of confidence and accessibility and the perception of both the art as a piece and the role of the artist, particularly in relation to how these shape different ways of seeing and the idea of compliance, with the strong belief that Art provides the vital space for this to happen.
Here the artist presents ‘art as fayre’ as part of two private view hospitality offers with printed napkins ‘Mine Not Yours’ and an Abigail’s Party style cocktail cheese offering with a phallic twist.
